What is Myofacial Release (MFR)
Myofascial Release aims to:

Reduce pain

Restore range of movement

Improve postural alignment

Increase energy

Promote the bodies own inherent self-healing

Improve relaxation

Balance the mind, body and spirit

MFR is a whole body hands on approach to reduce pain, improve function and restore range of movement. A pressure of varying amounts is placed on the body to allow the release of the deepest restrictions. Stretches are held for a minimum of 2 minutes to allow for lasting changes.

Myo-fascial

Myo is the Latin word for muscle and fascia for band. Myofascial is the also known as the body’s connective tissue, which is a 3-dimensional spiders web covering each and every one of us from head to toe.

It is extremely tough and robust applying a force upto 2000 pounds per square inch, often acting like a straight jacket in areas of restriction and scar tissue.

It surround all the soft tissue, muscle, organs, blood vessels and bone penetrating as deeply as each individual cell and as superficially as our skin.

The fascia provides cushioning and supportive mechanisms for our skeleton; healthy fascia allows the free flow of the bodies circulation, nutrition and energy. This allows us to feel well and to function without any pain.

The majority of the body's fascia is orientated vertically, the deepest layer is the dura mater (the connective tissue surrounding the brain and spinal cord) and the superficial layer is the skin.  MFR will treat and release the retrictions within the body and restore the equilibrium and balance.

How is Fascia Injured

Fascia can become injured following surgery, birth, trauma, disease, inflammation and prolonged poor posture.

The restrictions can put pressure on pain sensitive structures as well as creating a drag throughout the whole of the system.

An analogy of a restriction is the fascial system could be likened to a pull at the bottom of your jumper; you can see the strain through the jumper and feel the pull at your neck and shoulders. The facia can create a similar strain throughout our bodies resulting in pain and reducing range of movement and normal function.

MFR is a whole body treatment as the cause of the symptoms is often some distance from the pain.

‘Find the pain and look elsewhere for the cause'
