Acupuncture

The insertion of fine needles are inserted into the skin at specific points. As the needles are inserted most patients feel a dull aching sensation known as ‘deqi'.

What are the benefits?

The benefits of acupuncture can include pain relief, the release of tight soft tissue, an increase in circulation and improved relaxation.

Sometimes the needle sensation may produce some aching and tingling, this is a normal sign and relates to the stimulation of the tissues.

Acupuncture can help reduce scar tissue pain and restore movement.

Acupuncture can also be beneficial to reduce naseau and fatigue following chemotherapy and surgery.

How Does it Work?

Research has shown that the insertion of needles in specific points stimulates the parts of the brain which control our emotions and pain. The body releases a number of chemical and hormones during acupuncture treatment. Endorphin is one of the most important substances released due to its pain inhibiting effect.

Most patients require 3 treatment before it is clear if acupuncture is working effectively.
